The Mat-Su Borough announced the temporary closure of four area trails Friday afternoon due to the warming spring conditions.
According to a borough press release, effective 5 p.m. Friday the following trails will be off-limits: Crevasse Moraine (borough land,) Lazy Mountain/Lazy Moose, Austin Helmers/Pioneer Ridge and Matanuska Peak.
“The trail conditions have deteriorated due to melting snow, and we are asking the public to stay off the trails listed above until further notice,” according to the release. “Signs will be posted at the trailheads reminding people of the closures. The trail surfaces are very soft and fragile this time of year. Using them can cause trail damage and erosion.”
The release said residents should expect additional closures next week “as warm temperatures continue to cause melting snow and runoff.”
