The Matanuska-Susitna Borough on Friday issued a weekend air quality advisory for Butte and surrounding areas, including Palmer and Wasilla, according to a news release. The advisory is valid through the weekend until 9 a.m. Monday. According to the borough, a National Weather Service forecast said winds were expected to increase to 15 to 20 mph with gust as high as 35 mph and become more easterly Saturday night.

“There is potential for wind-blown dust from the Knik riverbed and other localized sources impacting the Butte, and surrounding areas, including Palmer, and Wasilla, which can result in unhealthy to hazardous air quality,” according to the release.
