Borough Mayor candidate arrested

It almost slipped by us because of how minor the charge is. But our eagle-eyed sports editor — who knows the candidate from his time as a pugilist and sometime boxing organizer — pointed out that Borough Mayor candidate Emil, “Butch” Fondahn showed up in police reports from last week.

Fondahn is one of seven candidates who are seeking the borough mayor spot that will serve out the term of Curt Menard, who passed away March 3.

Palmer Police, which posts a week’s worth of press releases to its Web site every Monday, reported today that they’d arrested Fondahn, 64, on April 28. He was apparently wanted on a warrant issued after he didn’t show up for his arraignment on a charge of driving in violation of a limited license. As of this posting, prison records showed Fondahn had since bailed out of jail.

Court records show that the case was opened April 3. A quick archive search shows it was Palmer police who first arrested him for the license violation on April 2, after which he was released on his own recognizance. According to court records, the new charge triggered the re-opening of a 2006 DUI case. Prosecutors are now trying to revoke his probation.
