MAT-SU -- While many people will be casting their ballots in statewide and national election races, Mat-Su Borough Department of Emergency Services staff are asking people to make a different sort of bid -- for a horse that's now in custody at the borough Animal Care and Regulation shelter.
"Rowdy," a 24-year-old, gelded quarter-horse mix, has been housed at the shelter for three weeks. According to information from shelter staff, Rowdy appears to be in good shape, although he's thin. His feet appear to be in good condition as well, although they need a trim. Rowdy was dewormed on Oct. 16, and appears to be well-behaved around people and children. He trailers easily and is generally a friendly horse.
Although staff at the shelter said they'll miss him, Mat-Su Borough Chief Animal Care and Regulation Officer Dave Allison said it's time to find Rowdy a home.
The call-out auction will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mat-Su Borough Animal Care and Regulation shelter.
For more information about Rowdy, people may call the shelter at 746-5500 or stop by. The shelter is located adjacent to the borough's Central Landfill, off North 49th State Street.
