MAT-SU — Six teachers will be honored as 2013 BP Teachers of Excellence for the Mat-Su Borough School District. The 18th annual BP Teachers of Excellence awards dinner is at 6 p.m., May 2 at Settlers Bay Resort
This year’s Mat-Su BP Teachers of Excellence are: Ron Bowlan, Knik Elementary School; Dennis Campbell, Machetanz Elementary School; Nathan Ford, Wasilla High School; Guinevere Hill, Birchtree Charter School; Trevor Townsend, Colony High School; and Daniel Trotter, Colony High School.
The six Mat-Su teachers are among more than 30 educators to be honored as 2013 Teachers of Excellence. The program recognizes Alaska teachers for their dedication to teaching and for inspiring students.
Each BP Teacher of Excellence receives a $500 gift card and an award certificate. In addition, the teacher’s school receives a matching $500 grant.
This year’s BP Teacher of the Year from the Mat-Su will be announced at the reception May 2.
That teacher will receive a $1,500 scholarship for continuing education and a bronze sculpture by Alaska artist Mary Regat.
