The Wasilla boys defeated Skyview and Soldotna Friday to secure a berth in the state tournament and earn a spot in today's Northern Lights Conference championship game at Wasilla High School. The Warriors will face Kenai Central at 4 p.m. for the title.

Wasilla beat Soldotna 3-1 in the semifinals at Wasilla to move on to the championship, while Kenai downed Colony 2-1 on penalty kicks Friday night at the Bumpus Sports Complex. Jordan Ingalls, Aaron Bean and John Pahkala each scored for Wasilla against Soldotna.

On the girls side, Palmer used 2-1 victories over Skyview in the morning and Soldotna in the afternoon to earn a spot in today's final against Homer. The Moose prevailed on penalty kicks against the Panthers, then used two Ashley Swetzof goals to down SoHi at Bumpus. The Moose will meet Homer for the championship at 2 p.m. today at Wasilla High School.

While the Palmer girls and Wasilla boys have guaranteed themselves a spot in next week's state tournament, two other Mat-Su teams are still alive in the race for a state berth.

The Wasilla girls lost 1-0 to Homer in the semifinals Friday and will face Soldotna today at 10 a.m. in the third-place game with a trip to state on the line.

Likewise, the Colony boys can still make state with a win in the boys consolation final against Soldotna at noon at Wasilla.
