For the second time in three years, Mark and Tracy Childers — owners of Right Now Mgmt Inc. — have finished in the No. 1 spot on ColorTyme’s competitive Top 10 franchise ranking.
The Childers own three stores in Alaska and two in Washington state. This past year the company moved up from fifth largest volume company in 2009 to the fourth largest in 2010. Every store won a top award for high performance and contributed to the number one ranking.
Glenn M. Steiner, CFSP, has earned the designation of certified funeral service practitioner from the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice Inc. certification means the licensed funeral director must meet defined criteria annually to continue use of this prestigious designation. The League of Women Voters will celebrate its 91st birthday on Monday. Founded in 1920 by leaders in the women’s suffrage movement, the organization has become synonymous with elections and voting, citizen engagement and civility. According to league leaders throughout Alaska, their members are busy all year and opportunities for civic engagement abound.
“For more than 90 years, the league has stood for and worked towards the civil exchange of different points of view,” said Alaska League president Marilyn Russell, “Our work has helped to improve the functioning of government and bridge the gap between voters and elected officials. From serving on local commissions to holding candidate debates and town hall meetings on important — and sometimes controversial — issues, league leaders are working to make our community healthy, vibrant and strong.”
There are about 800 leagues in all 50 states and membership is open to men and women of all ages.

Palmer Lions Club 44th annual gun show is March 12-13 at Raven Hall on the Alaska State Fairgrounds. The annual event includes more than 300 tables of guns, knives and outdoor gear, as well as a free chance to win a fishing charter, hourly door prizes and a rifle raffle. The event is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., March 12 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., March 13. Park at the state fairgrounds purple gate and a free shuttle will deliver people to Raven Hall. The Better Business Bureau’s free document shredding is coming to the Mat-Su. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 16 at Wells Fargo Bank, 1701 E. Parks Highway, people can drive up and drop off up to three bags or boxes of unwanted documents per person. Items will be securely shredded free on-the-spot by Shred Alaska.
