On Tuesday, Governor Mike Dunleavy today appointed Jason Brune to the public seat on the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation (APFC) Board of Trustees.
Brune most recently served as commissioner of the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and occupied the seat on the APFC board assigned to the DEC commissioner. Prior to that, he was the senior director of land and resources at Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI), an Alaska Native Corporation.
He also has vast experience having served on a variety of business and civic organizations like the Alaska Sealife Center Board, Cook Inlet Beluga Whale Endangered Species Act (ESA) Recovery Team, Tyonek Tribal Conservation District Board, and the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Public Advisory Committee, to name a few.
Brune is also the former executive director for the Resource Development Council, executive director emeritus for Alaska Resource Education, and past president of the Alaska Miners Association.
He has a bachelor's degree in biology from Carleton College, and his graduate work was in environmental science at Alaska Pacific University.
Trustee Brune was first appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2022, holding one of the two seats reserved for the Governor's cabinet members. Upon his resignation as DEC Commissioner, he was appointed to the four-year public seat.
He replaces outgoing trustee Steve Rieger. Governor Dunleavy thanks Mr. Rieger for his dedicated public service as a trustee and to the State of Alaska.
Brune's four-year term on the APFC board of trustees takes effect immediately.
