Brush fire burns in Knik area

KNIK — A hilltop near the end of Carmel Road, off Knik Knack Mud Shack Road caught fire Friday.

According to Johnny Murdock with the borough’s Department of Emergency Services, at about two p.m. fire crews were estimating the fire to be between two and three acres.

On scene, a Division of Forestry helicopter dumped load after load of water pulled from a nearby lake. Borough and Forestry trucks parked on an unburned portion of the hill.

Murdock said Central Mat-Su, West Lakes and Forestry firefighters and trucks were on scene.

As of 3:30 p.m., firefighters were still on scene
