Buried utilities are nice frills

To the editor:

Today I read the article regarding Wasilla’s mandate to bury the high voltage transmission line. Mandate? Wait a minute. You can’t “mandate” an electric co-op to anything unless you go through all the members.

The city is a consumer just like us private individuals, and the difference is the scales of economy. If I own land in Wasilla, and I wanted MEA to hook me up, but the nearest pole is 5 miles away, of course I’m going to pay for the service, as we did years ago when we lived between Palmer and Wasilla.

Buried utilities are nice frills. But if you want frills, you pay for it like everyone.
