Business hurdles unnecessary

To the editor,

I think it is absolutely absurd that The Grape Tap has to go through so many unnecessary steps to be granted a business license. Requiring advertisements in the local newspapers for three weeks not only costs time, but also money that the owner shouldn’t be forced to pay. Then also requiring signatures from 50 percent of the 21-plus population is completely over to top. These tasks have nothing to do with obtaining a business license and will even discourage people from starting new businesses.

Transferring the ownership of a restaurant should be seamless especially when I successor was chosen by the previous owner. These license requirements are moving in the wrong direction; we should be encouraging new businesses not driving them away.
