Within our community there are many groups that reach out to people who are less fortunate than others. One of those groups is the Wasilla Food Pantry on the grounds of Good Shepard Lutheran Church on Bogard Road. For many years the pantry has been quietly dispensing foodstuffs to needy families, and the need continues to grow yearly. In light of this fact, the Knights of Columbus at Sacred Heart Catholic Church have embarked on a project to assist the pantry.
Late last month the Knights sought help from local businesses to construct a garden with the sole purpose of growing vegetables for the pantry. Three local businesses stepped up and we would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks. We truly appreciate Curt Lindner with Spenard Builders for lumber; Rexie Montoya and her crew (John, James, Melissa, Tammy, Catherine, Teresa, Ken, Eric and Dwight) from The Home Depot for lumber, materials, plants and lots of labor; and soil from T&J Gravel Products.
Thanks to donations from these businesses and individuals, we now have a garden that will help provide needed food for families of our community through the Wasilla Food Pantry.
Thank you.
