BUTTE — A man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after an early morning shooting, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The shooting happened about 2 a.m., when a group of men showed up at a residence near the intersection of Bodenburg Loop and the Old Glenn Highway, according to troopers. When the men refused to leave, a resident opened fire, seriously injuring one man.

The shooter remained on scene and was in the custody of Alaska State Troopers, according to troopers at the scene.

The shooting marks the second in a year in the Butte community. The previous shooting in November 2014 claimed the life of a young mother after a sham kidnapping went awry. The shooter in the November case was later acquitted of murder charges.
