Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Calvin Dell Toal, 30, of Houston, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Valley Hospital in Palmer, of injuries sustained in a snowmachine accident at Mile 52.6 Parks Highway near Houston.
Mr. Toal was born to Charles Toal and Deborah Dickinson on Dec. 25, 1972, in Brewster, Wash. He was raised near Twisp, Wash. by Charles and Katrina Toal.
The family moved to Olympia, Wash. in 1988 where he attended Capital High School. He worked hard to get his G.E.D. Mr. Toal later returned to the Methow Valley where he met and fell in love with Krystal Kelly. They moved to Wasilla with their two children in March of 1999.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, snowboarding, snowmachining, floating the river and rebuilding anything remote control. He was also an apprentice plumber.
His family remembers, "Calvin was always with his girls. He took them camping and fishing. We would go on Sunday drives. Calvin always made sure that everything we did was fun. Calvin liked to be with his friends and family."
He is survived by his mother Deborah Dickinson of Twisp, Wash.; father Charles Toal of Shelton, Wash.; Katrina Toal of Olympia, Wash.; Krystal Kelly of Wasilla; daughters Samantha Rose and Bryanna Page Toal of Wasilla; brothers Shawn Toal of Twisp, Wash.; Joshua Toal of Olympia, Wash.; sisters Sarah Majors of Wasilla, Hettie Surface of Twisp, Wash., and Mandie Maier of Port Orchard, Wash.; and four nieces and four nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to an education fund for Mr. Toal's daughters at Calvin Dell Toal Memorial Fund, Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union, 1020 S. Bailey Street, Palmer AK 99645.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
