The UAA Seawolves volleyball program will begin the 2010 season ranked 24th, according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II rankings, released Wednesday. On that team is 2010 Colony graduate Siobhan Johansen, who is set to begin her freshman season with the Seawolves.
Johansen is among three setters and six true freshmen on the UAA roster. Last year, Johansen captained the Knights to a runner-up finish in the 4A state tournament, and was named the outstanding setter at the state championships.
UAA is the defending Great Northwest Athletic Conference champion and finished the season 23-8 and ranked 24th in the final poll.
Johansen could make her debut during the Seawolf Alumni exhibition match Saturday at 9 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Complex in Anchorage. Regular season action begins Thursday when UAA hosts the Extended Stay Deluxe Invitational. The Seawolves meet Drury at 7 p.m.
