Death-defying moose dead
HOUSTON — A moose that narrowly escaped one vehicle this week wasn’t so lucky with a second.
Alaska State Troopers were called to investigate the crash at Mile 53 Parks Highway shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday.
They say Donald E. Tucker, 72, of Willow, was southbound driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee when a moose crossed in front of him. Tucker only grazed the moose, causing slight damage to he Jeep’s headlight.
The moose continued across the road where it met its doom.
Larry L. R. Baker, 16, of Houston, was in that lane, driving a 1990 Pontiac Grand Am. He hit the moose head-on. The moose rolled up onto the car’s windshield, totaling the Pontiac.
Troopers say one passenger in the Grand Am had injuries that were not life threatening and was taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
Otherwise, troopers report, with the exception of the moose, no one else was injured.
