PALMER -- The Extended Learning Program (ELP) hosts monthly career forums at Palmer High School that feature various professional opportunities for students.
Previous forums have featured biology, law, medicine and writing. September's forum -- film and television production, will be held Sept. 27 from 7-9 p.m. in the Palmer High School upper library. All students, school staff, and parents are welcome to attend.
A question-and-answer session will follow the presentations, and refreshments will be served. For further information, people may contact Paul Morley at Palmer High School (746-8433, Paul.Morley@gw.co.Mat-Su.ak.us), or Grant Olson (761-4335, Grant.Olson@gw.co.mat-su.ak.us) at Palmer Junior Middle School.
The following professionals will offer an in-depth look at what it takes to work in the areas of sound, television, and film -- Jeff Morgan, owner, sound designer, and engineer of Frozen Lake Studio records, specializing in music recordings and movie sound; Jerry Caires, producer/director; and Bill Bacon, cinematographer-producer/director, whose credits include the Alaskan Filmmaker's Award, the ASMP Alaska Photographic Achievement Award, two Academy Award nominations and three Emmy Awards.
For more than 47 years, Bacon has been making films, both wildlife and feature, for such companies as Disney, National Geographic, NOVA, and the Discovery Channel. Bacon's presentation will feature examples of his work, camera techniques, and approaches to storyboarding.
