Wasilla resident Carol Lynn Eckels, 60, died Sept. 3, 2004, of natural causes, at Ruthie's Assisted Living Home in Wasilla.
Her ashes will be scattered on Pioneer Peak by her son, Patrick, and daughter, Kathy, in January 2005. A celebration of her life is being planned and will be published at a later date.
Ms. Eckels was born Nov. 14, 1944, in Illinois. She moved to Alaska in the 1960s, where she made Palmer her home. In the early 1980s, she owned and operated her own custodial service business and in the late 1980s to early 1990s, she was employed with the Fishhook Bar.
Her family said, "Carol was loved by many people and her death is a great loss to many friends and family. She unselfishly raised her grandchildren until she became too ill to continue. Although she will be missed by all of us, we know the Lord has taken her to a better, pain-free place."
She is survived by her children, Patrick, Kathy and Kelly Marrs and grandchildren, Jarrelle, Ashona Lee and Kaydien Marrs. Several brothers and sisters in the Lower 48 also survive her.
Memorial donations may be sent in care of Judith Flagan, P.O. Box 876082, Wasilla, AK 99687.
Arrangements are with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
