Wasilla resident Carole Anntoinette Starace-Wiseman, 51, died peacefully in her sleep July 25, 2004, after having suffered from a long-term illness.

The family held a celebration-of-life ceremony at her home in Wasilla on Thursday, from 1-2 p.m.

Mrs. Starace-Wiseman was born March 9, 1953, in Chicago, and graduated from high school in Donners Grove, Ill. In 1977, she moved to Alaska, where she's lived in Eagle River, Chugiak and Wasilla.

She worked as a nanny, store clerk, outfitter, seamstress, saddlemaker, dump-truck driver and finally a homemaker. Mrs. Starace-Wiseman was raised Catholic and baptized in both the Baptist and LDS faiths. She was a volunteer for the Special Olympics and president of the Wasilla chapter of National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. She enjoyed raising pugs, Bible study, helping people and experiencing Alaska.

Mrs. Starace-Wiseman's family said, "Carole was first, foremost and always a spirit-filled Christian lady who brought many people to Jesus. She was full of strength, love and compassion for an innumerable amount of people. She established one of the last homesteads in the Wasilla area upon moving to Alaska with her two daughters, of whom she was most proud. She truly lived the Alaska lifestyle and loved it! Carole enjoyed a close and loving relationship with her husband. She was not afraid to speak her mind or express her opinion. She advocated and helped establish the NAMI chapter in Wasilla. Carole's voice and smiling face will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We know that she is truly with Jesus."

Mrs. Starace-Wiseman is survived by her husband, Jeff Wiseman, and two daughters, Erica and Claudie Pletting all of Wasilla; her mother, Anntoinette Starace, and a sister, Katherine Kinghorn, both of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Dr. William Starace, of Stockton, Calif., and a brother, Michael Starace, of Boise, Idaho. She is also survived by numerous extended family members including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations in Mrs. Starace-Wiseman's honor are being accepted by her husband, Jeffrey Wiseman, at HC36, Box 2888, Wasilla, AK 99654.

Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
