Carolyn Ann Hildebrand died peacefully in her sleep on July 7, 2018 at her home in Wasilla. She was born September 23, 1952 to Maurice J. (Mick) and Gloria J. (Glo) Godfretsen in Santa Rosa, California.

When Carol was 8 the family moved to Alaska and settled in the Rabbit Creek area of South Anchorage. She graduated from Dimond High in 1971 and went on to attend UAA where she majored in Music Composition and Geology.

Strong and independent Carol was a free spirit who followed her own path. Her contagious laugh and unorthodox sense of humor drew people to her like a magnet. Carol never met a stranger and welcomed all without judgment or critique. She never missed an opportunity to befriend, share or support.

An enormous talent, Carol’s raspy voice and home-spun ballads were a treasure for family and friends and a gift to Alaskans who enjoyed her performances at festivals and fairs throughout the state. We’ll remember with smiles all those “Jam Sessions” led by our kitchen table band leader.

A skilled and eclectic crafter she leaves behind years of cherished homemade gifts; beaded, quilled, crocheted and sculpted. She left us pieces of her we can hold in our hands.

Young people were especially drawn to her and found her an adult who would listen. Many of those children still love her as much now as when she first took them under her wing. You know who you are.

She devoted her life to her Heavenly Father and spent each and every day honoring Him and seeking His truths. We are comforted in our belief that our Lord will hold her close and look after our Solitary Rose.

Carol is survived by her children and sisters and their families. William and Christina Godfretsen (Serenity, Olivia, MacKenzie, Marco, Tello, Sal, and Cevana.) Madison Hildebrand (Quincee and Nymeira.) Vicki and Gary Baker (Lindsey and Michael.) Betty Morgan and Joseph Alward (Shiloh and Harmony,) and many friends who loved her and were loved in return.

Services for Carol were held July 15th. Her family held their traditional barbecue and fire-pit farewell on the 17th.
