Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Carolynn B. Collier, 74, died Jan. 31, 2006, in Wasilla, due to heart failure. Her ashes will be scattered at an undisclosed location.
Ms. Collier was born Dec. 8, 1931, in Alhambra, Calif. She completed her high school education and graduated in 1949. In 1961, she moved to Alaska. She lived in Chugiak from 1961-1982, in Palmer from 1982-1983 and then lived the rest of her life in Wasilla.
Ms. Collier was employed by Sears and Roebuck from 1965 until 1971. She worked at Alaska Title from 1971 until the mid 1980s.
Ms. Collier attended Wasilla Assembly of God and enjoyed painting, bowling, gardening and crafts.
Her family wrote, “Cary was a very artistic person who loved Alaska and couldn't imagine living anyplace else.”
Ms. Collier is survived by her daughters, Jann M. Barber of Stockdale, Texas, Shellie Kowalke of Willow, Lyndee Collier of Wasilla and Cyndee Attwood of Wasilla; sons-in-law, Jerry L. Barber of Stockdale, Texas, Robert Kowalke of Willow and Thomas Attwood of Wasilla; sister and brother-in-law, Ann Kirschman and Gene Kirschman of Washington; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Randie L. Clark; grandson, Daniel S. Barber and brother, James Greg.
