Carroll “Sue” McKechnie

Palmer resident Carroll “Sue” McKechnie, 74, died March 23, 2011, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer. A funeral service is at 3 p.m., Friday at First Baptist Church of Palmer. Visitation is at 2 p.m.

Sue was born Sept. 26, 1936, in Centralia, Ill. She moved to Alaska in 1964 and resided in Anchorage for 14 years before settling in Palmer.

She was employed as a telephone operator in Washington state, a dispatcher for the Alaska State Troopers from 1964 to 1968, at the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation from 1968 to1987, where she retired as district manager of environmental sanitation.

Sue loved Jesus and it showed in her life. She won many awards and merits while employed with the state. She was a huge eBay seller known for her dolls and thimbles all over the world, never having bad feedback.

“Mom was a very giving, generous and kind person who always had a smile and a positive outlook on everything,” her family wrote. “If anybody in our family was in need of anything, mom was there with a solution. Mom was the best mother anybody could have ever hoped to have. She loved all of us dearly and truly loved her husband of 43 years, Jack. Mom will be with us again in heaven.”

She is survived by her husband, Jack D. McKechnie; daughter, Linda Sieler; daughter and son-in-law, Dale and Eric Gates; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Gordy Richmond, all of Palmer; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Wayne Whaley of Wasilla; sons, Marty Sieler of Palmer and Darrell McAllister of Kenai. Also surviving her are 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard Wilson, David Wilson and Jerome Wilson of Washington; sister, Ann Friz of California; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are with Legacy Kehl’s Palmer Chapel.
