Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Big Lake resident Cathie M. Stock, 48, died at her home on Oct. 12, 2001.
A memorial service was held at 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Big Lake Community Chapel, Mile 5 Big Lake Road, with the Rev. Phil Mielke officiating.
Mrs. Stock was born in Knoxville, Tenn., on Nov. 7, 1952. She graduated from Anaheim High School in California, then resided in Washington state, before moving to Alaska in 1996, where she resided with her husband and son in the Big Lake area.
Mrs. Stock had been employed as a waitress before moving to Alaska. In recent years she spent her time as a homemaker and enjoyed activities such as gardening and making new friends.
Her husband stated: "Her family and friends in the community will miss her deeply for her charitable contributions to those in need."
Her mother, Elsie Mae Merritt, preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 2001.
Surviving is her husband, David, of Big Lake; 12-year-old son, Jeremy Stock of Big Lake; adopted son, Michael Eversoll; brothers, Jeff and Greg Merritt, both of Washington state; sister, Genna Merritt of London, England; stepfather, Arthur Merritt of Washington state; and many relatives and friends in Washington state and Alaska.
The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Big Lake Community Chapel, P.O. Box 520158, Big Lake AK 99652.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home and Crematory.
