The body of a 39-year-old Willow woman was found Friday at the edge of a small lake near Mile 100 Parks Highway, Alaska State Troopers said.
Anita Faye Mays had last been seen at 12:30 a.m. Monday when she left work at the Big Su Lodge, troopers said. Troopers from Big Lake and Talkeetna, aided by a canine, began searching for her Thursday night after a friend alerted them to the woman's disappearance.
Troopers looked near Mile 100 because several vehicles were discovered in the area Monday morning, including a Ford Bronco II which co-workers say was the type of car Mays drove. The car was off the road and abandoned, and apparently had rolled. Troopers said there was no evidence of any injuries from the rollover.
Mays' body was discovered about 150 feet from the car. Troopers theorized she died of injuries from the crash or from hypothermia. Foul play is not suspected, according to a trooper press release.
Mays' body was taken to the State Medical Examiner's office for determination of cause of death. An investigation is continuing.
