DENALI PARK — Want to know what it takes to provide trails for visitors in Denali National Park? Come join the Denali trail crew June 7 and celebrate National Trails Day by helping with maintenance activities on the Horseshoe Lake Trail, the park’s first established trail.
Volunteers will help the National Park Service trail crew with hauling brush, constructing trail, and rehabilitating disturbed areas on one of the most popular trails in the park. This is a great opportunity to get firsthand experience with how trails are built and maintained in a sub-arctic environment, and to enjoy a beautiful area that provides habitat for a variety of wildlife.
Participants should expect 2-4 miles of moderate hiking over uneven terrain. The trail crew will meet participants at 8:45 a.m. in the Denali Visitor Center parking lot, located at Mile 1.2, Denali Park Road. Look for the group in green and grey uniforms.
Come prepared for a moderate hike and bring a daypack with water, lunch, snacks, clothing layers and rain gear. The National Park Service will provide tools and safety equipment. Participants should be back at the parking lot by 4 p.m.
