‘CHAIR-ity’ event raises $911

To the editor:

St. David’s has formed a partnership with MYHouse, a nonprofit seeking to provide safe shelter and support for unaccompanied youth in the Valley, and would like to thank the community for showing its support with our second annual “CHAIR-ity!” effort.

Community members throughout the Valley created artistically designed chairs to be auctioned off during Colony Days, with proceeds providing teens with shower, laundry and meal vouchers.

This year, we were able to auction off 27 chairs and raised $911 to help teens during the summer months.

A special thank you to AT&T Sports Center for letting us display the chairs there and St. John’s in Palmer for letting us auction the chairs during its community picnic. In addition, we would like to thank R&R Campground on the Parks Highway toward Big Lake. R&R will offer shower and laundry services from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays for homeless teens.

We welcome more people of all ages to join us with decorating chairs for next year’s auction, which will take place during Colony Days.
