WASILLA — This year’s annual Champions for Children winners were announced at a recent celebration at Evangelo’s Restaurant in Wasilla.

Sponsored by the Mat-Su Education Association, the awards honor individuals and businesses that give tirelessly of their time and talents to help Mat-Su Borough School District students in a wide variety of ways.

2014 winners are: Wendy E. Taylor, Debbie Filter, Larry Ouelette, Mat-Su Health Foundation represented by Linda Conover, Marcella Padie, Angelina Klapperich, Wendy L. Taylor, Robert Collier, Rachel Gernat-Cheyette, Gary Feaster and Denise Hardy.

Joyce Lund, a 30-year veteran teacher, gave the keynote speech, which stressed the importance of giving back to the community.

Joe Boyle, Tracey Martin and Linda Jo Klapperich organized the annual ceremony.
