Longtime Alaskan resident Charles "Charlie" Everest Harned died May 30, 2003, at Valley Hospital in Palmer. He was 52.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, June 7, at All Saints Episcopal Church on 8th and F streets in Anchorage.

Mr. Harned was born Dec. 17, 1950, in St. Petersburg, Fla., where he resided until 1951. The military moved him and his family to Seattle, Wash., until being transferred to Washington, D.C., in 1955. In 1961 his family was transferred to Alaska. He graduated from West High School in 1970.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, traveling in his motor home, hunting, fishing, and game preserving -- his specialty was smoked Copper River red salmon.

Mr. Harned had a beautiful home on the south shore of Big Lake where he loved to entertain his family and friends. He was a gourmet cook specializing in Alaskan seafood and Louisiana-style fare.

Charlie's family said, "Charlie will be remembered as a man with a generous heart, a boisterous sense of humor. Charlie had a style of true Alaskan hospitality. He considered his wife, daughter and grandchildren as his great accomplishments in life. He was a dedicated loving husband, father, and grandfather he dearly loved his many loyal friends. He will be truly missed."

Mr. Harned is survived by his wife Lynn; daughter Saralyn Denny; grandchildren Coby Everest and Emmalee Ann; sister and brother-in-law Tedo and Don Manley; sister Hughes Marinella; brother and sister-in-law Michael and MaryLynn Harned; step-mother Vivian Harned; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Harriett and father Albert E. "Bill" Harned.

Arrangements were made by Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary & Crematory.
