Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Cheryl Maurita Gittlein, 58, died Feb. 8, 2006, in a car accident near Wasilla.
Services will be held in both Colorado and Alaska at a later date.
She was born Nov. 27, 1947, in Pierre, S.D., to Wayne and Wilma Carr, and moved to Longmont, Colo., in 1955. She graduated from Longmont High School in 1965 and was a graduate of the Community College of Denver. She married Ron Gittlein in October 1971 and worked with him in running their family business, Toolmasters Inc., in Longmont.
Her family wrote, “Cheryl was very active in raising her children and in their school and sports activities throughout her life. Cheryl was an avid reader and loved working with arts and crafts. She was a staunch Republican and loved discussing politics. After her separation from Ron, she moved to Wasilla in 2003 to live near her children and members of her extended family, with whom she had a loving and lasting relationship.”
Ms. Gittlein was a member of New Creation Church in Longmont and attended Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Wasilla.
She is survived by her son, Keith, and wife, Staci, of Fort Collins, Colo.; daughter, Holly, of Wasilla; son, Brian, and wife, Rachel, of Wasilla; parents, Wayne and Wilma Carr; sisters and brother, Marna Nicholson, Lou Ann Hodge and Candy Kemp, and Mike Carr and their families, all of Colorado; mother-in-law, Florina Gittlein of Wasilla; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard Gittlein of Big Lake, Dave and Lorree Gittlein of Big Lake, Ken and Janice Gittlein of Wasilla, Paul and Trudi Gittlein of Wasilla and their families, all of Alaska, as well as many nieces and nephews.
