PALMER -- At Tuesday's meeting of the Palmer City Council, city manager Tom Healy reported to the council that he was postponing his decision on the hiring of a new police chief.
This time the announcement came with an Alaskan twist.
"One of the candidates has gone hunting, and so I haven't been able to meet with him," Healy said.
The candidate on a hunting trip is former Alaska State Trooper John Glass. The other remaining candidate is acting Palmer Police Chief Russ Boatright. Healy hasn't told the Frontiersman whether he plans to offer Glass the job or not, but did say that one last meeting with Glass was all he needed before announcing his decision.
Boatright said he couldn't predict what either Glass or Healy would bring to the table at the as-yet-unscheduled meeting.
"All I know is that (Healy) really wants to talk to John Glass and that's all I know," Boatright said.
