CHUGIAK — With a pair of late runs, Chugiak-Eagle River extended its winning streak Monday night.
The Chinooks pushed a pair across the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning during a 4-3 victory over the Anchorage Bucs at Lee Jordan Field.
Justin Gomez doubled and scored to tie the score at 3, and Micah Pries reached on a fielder’s choice and scored the go-ahead run to give Chugiak-Eagle River its fifth straight, and placed the Chinooks (6-5) in a second-place tie with the Bucs as of Monday. Anchorage had taken a 3-2 lead in the top half of the inning.
The Chinooks jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first. Luke Coffey was hit by a pitch and Brandon Michie singled to put two on for the Chinooks. Both scored on a Gomez double to give Chugiak the 2-0 lead.
Gomez finished 3 for 4 at the plate with a pair of RBI and a run scored. Michie added two hits.
The victory followed a two-game sweep of the Peninsula Oilers at home. Chugiak beat the Oilers 5-2 on Sunday. Aaron Shackleford and Hayden Mixon had two hits each. Mixon drove in three runs and Michie scored three times. Chugiak blanked Peninsula 6-0 on Saturday. Three pitchers combined for the shutout. Noah Jones scattered six hits over six innings, and earned the wins.
Chugiak also edged the Anchorage Glacier Pilots 5-4 June 16.
Chugiak hosts Mat-Su Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Lee Jordan Field.
