To the editor:
On March 31, Alaskans from Barrow to Unalaska to Ketchikan stood together and chose a new way forward for our state — one marked by respect and community. I want to thank our 18 community partners, the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, the state’s many other invaluable non-profits and advocacy groups, and the thousands of Alaskans who partnered and participated in this effort.
Together, we have laid the foundation for real change. Alaskans now have greater potential to be safe in their homes and communities. But now the real challenge begins.
Our lives must display respect, and we must choose it on a daily basis. I urge Alaskans across the state to partner with us as the Choose Respect movement grows. Together, we can usher in a new era of safe homes, healthy families, cultural respect and community awareness.
