Longtime former Alaska resident Christopher Terry, 99, died peacefully in his sleep Dec. 22, 2003, in Peoria, Ariz.
He was born in Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada, on June 16, 1904, but was raised from age 2 in England. While a young a man he sailed the world on various British merchant ships before settling in Alaska.
He lived for a number of years in Anchorage where he worked primarily for Milt Odom at Anchorage Cold Storage Company. He staked a homestead on Kelly Lake in Willow in 1954 and lived the then-typical "subsistence-existence" lifestyle on that homestead until July 1974. Subsequently, he lived in Minnesota and Arizona.
He died with his longtime friend and companion Lorraine Barchinger, of Sun City, Ariz., at his side.
His family said, "Chris lived and loved Alaska; he often stated that after he left he never felt the same again. His ashes will be returned to Alaska in summer 2004."
Arrangements were made by Sunland Mortuary, Sun City, Ariz.
