PALMER — Local folks will have another reason to tune in the Rose Bowl Parade in 2014 — the Colony High School Marching Band.
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District was notified last week that the CHS band has been selected to participate in the parade in 2014.
CHS band director Jamin Burton put together the application packet in 2011 and the evening of Oct. 1 school officials learned they’d been accepted, according to Colony High School principal Cyd Duffin.
The CHS marching band and its members have collected a stringer of high profile parade performances, such as last year when two members from the CHS band were picked to play in the 2011 Macy’s Great American Marching Band in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Other accomplishments by the band include:
• Marched in the 2010 Sugar Bowl Parade in New Orleans
• Marched in the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Parade
• Marched in the 2006 National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C.
