CHS teacher wins national award

Colony High School math teacher Robert Williams has been named by the National Science Foundation to receive the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

This award is given on behalf of The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and recognizes outstanding teachers for their contributions to teaching and learning of mathematics and science. Williams was also the 2009 Alaska Teacher of the Year.

He will recieve a citation signed by President Barak Obama and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.

“The MatSu Borough School District focuses on student achievement, which is best exemplified by teacher achievement, such as this prestigious award to Mr. Williams,” says superintendent Kenneth Stephen Burnley in a statement about the award. “The district initiatives continue to focus on greater depth of math and science courses to improve student achievement and performance. Congratulations, Mr. Williams!”
