Church hosting Candy Blast

Parents looking for a safe alternative to trick-or-treating have found it at Wasilla Assembly of God for the last five years, and this year will be no exception. The sixth-annual Candy Blast is being held for two days this year, instead of just one as has been the norm in the past.

"Since Halloween is on a Sunday this year, we're giving parents the option of either day," organizer Jennifer Zivotic said. "Last year we had about 300 kids come through, and we're thinking it is going to be even bigger this year." Wasilla Assembly of God is located on Riley Avenue, just off Knik-Goose Bay Road. The event runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. both days, and there will be plenty of door prizes, games and, of course, candy.Organizers are looking for some help from the community to make the event even bigger and better.

"We've got all the volunteers we need, but now we're trying to get donations to buy gifts, or bags of candy," Zivotic said. "We are a nonprofit, so any donation is tax-exempt."

Those interested in donating can call Wasilla Assembly of God at 376-5732.
