A new Bus Stop Program is being launched by Trinity Lutheran Church next week on a smaller, model scale, with the hopes the program grows into a full-time community service.
The afterschool program was primarily designed for the children of working parents, Franzenburg said, but everyone is welcome.
"We want to focus on leadership development, and we are hoping to do apprenticeships and mentorships for students," Franzenburg said.
The program is patterned for students in grades one through middle school, Franzenburg said.
Students will come to Trinity after school, and after a "community building" time, there will be a tutoring program.
Following the tutor program, students will enter their apprenticeships and mentorships in an effort to learn new skills.
"Some students may work with Ron from [The Coffee] Roastery, and he may teach them how to run a coffeeshop," Franzenburg said. "The students can then take those skills and make some money.
"We are hoping that when the kids end up with these skills, they can become community ambassadors," Franzenburg said.
The program is one of many Trinity Lutheran Church has started.
