Church Women United is sponsoring its annual World Day of Prayer on March 5, and one local event is planned in accordance.
The Church Women United is a national volunteer and Christian-based ecumenical women's movement carried out by women in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. The movement brings together women of diverse races, cultures and traditions into closer Christian fellowship, organizers said, as well as prayer and advocacy for peace with justice in the world.
Women from churches in the Palmer area have celebrated the World Day of Prayer for a number of years.
One church is chosen to host the event and members of the other churches plan and present a program of prayer and hymns.
Similar programs take place nationally, beginning on the East Coast and ending with Saint Lawrence Island.
The program is written by women from different countries. The program this year has been written by the women of Panama.
Women from all Christian faiths are invited to attend the event this year, and it will take place at St. John Lutheran Church in Palmer on March 5, starting at noon. Following the service, a luncheon is scheduled.
