City of Houston temporarily suspends use of fireworks

The Houston Fire Department has temporarily suspended the use of several types of aerial fireworks, described below, due to the heightened fire danger level in Houston. This temporary suspension is in effect until further notice. This suspension will remain in effect until rescinded by the fire chief, which will occur after a sufficiently wetting rain.

Affected fireworks:

* Roman Candles of any type or style

* Parachute-style novelty fireworks with flares or smoke

* Helicopter-style novelty fireworks

* Saturn batteries and similar products

* Exploding binary mixed targets

Additional reminders:

* Always read and follow label directions

* Have water on site via a bucket of water or a charged water hose in case of fire

* Have a responsible, sober adult on site at all times, and use common sense

* Be respectful of neighbors

* Never allow young children to play with fireworks

* Never experiment or attempt to make your own fireworks

* Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not fully functioned

* Never point or throw fireworks at another person

* Fireworks are only legal in the City of Houston and may not be used in any other Mat-Su Valley community except during the New Year’s holiday.
