Following the resignation of councilman Timothy Johnson last month, Wasilla City Council announced the window has opened for the vacated seat to be filled until someone is elected in the regular city election on October 7, 2025.
To be eligible, interested people must be registered and qualified to vote in city elections as provided in Wasilla Municipal Code 4.08.010; must be a resident of the city or territory annexed to the city for one year immediately prior to the election or appointment to fill a vacancy.
Additionally, council members may not serve as members of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School Board, Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly, or hold the position of Matanuska-Susitna Borough Mayor while in office. Council members may not hold any other elected position in state or federal government while in office.
Interested candidates must submit a completed Application for Appointment, which will be available starting April 2 both in-person at the clerk’s office and the City of Wasilla website.
Candidates must also submit a letter of interest. These documents must be delivered to the city clerk’s office, located at 290 E Herning Avenue from April 7–18.
Interviews and the final appointment will take place during the regular city council meeting on April 28.
