On the heels of celebrating America’s Independence Day, the City of Wasilla has posted notice that the period to file a Declaration of Candidacy for the October 3 regular elections is coming up.
The City of Wasilla will hold a Regular Election on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. The following offices will be voted on and filled at the election: Mayor (3-year term), Council Seat C (3-year term), and Council Seat D (3-year term).
The period to file a Declaration of Candidacy for the October elections, accompanied by an Alaska Public Offices Commission, Public Official Financial Disclosure Statement, unless a current statement is on file, is July 17 – July 28, 2023.
To be eligible to serve as mayor or on the city council, persons must registered and in all other respects qualified to vote in City of Wasilla elections as provided in Wasilla Municipal Code 4.08.010.
Additionally, interested persons need to be a resident of the city and have been a resident of the city or of territory annexed to the city for 1 year immediately prior to the election. Candidates may be also required to provide additional proof of qualification as required by the City Clerk.
Finally, candidates must comply with financial disclosure and campaign reporting requirements as required by the Alaska Public Offices Commission.
Beginning July 12, residents interested in running for office can download the candidate filing packet or pick up one up from the City Clerk’s Office, located at 290 E. Herning Avenue, and open weekdays, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
