Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Cleo Wyvonne Sharp, 83, died Sept. 18, 2003, at the Palmer Pioneer's Home. A graveside service was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Sharp was born March 3, 1920, in Roston, Okla. She graduated from high school in Buffalo, Okla.
After graduating from high school, Mrs. Sharp became a hairdresser and owned her own beauty shop from 1939-1941 in Buffalo and was a homemaker from 1942 until now.
She moved to Alaska in January 1946 and lived in Anchorage from 1946 to 1952, in Vallejo, Calif., in 1953, in Kodiak from 1954 to 1955, in Ketchikan from 1955 to 1961, in Juneau from 1962 to 1968, in Anchorage from 1968 to 2002 and in Palmer since 2002.
Her family wrote, "Mrs. Sharp married Robert (Bob) Sharp in 1941. In January 1946, she and their daughter joined Bob in Anchorage, where he was discharged from the Army and became city manager (1948-1952). She was active in P.T.A., Girl Scouts and Little League. She enjoyed gardening and playing bridge. Following her husband's career in municipal and state government, she provided a warm and loving home in Kodiak, Ketchikan and Juneau, before returning to Anchorage in 1968 where her husband was city manager again. Her great-granddaughter Andrea Kramer's loving care enabled her to remain in her Anchorage home until 2002 before she entered the Palmer Pioneer's Home.

Mrs. Sharp is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Virginia and Walter Gilmour; son Stephen Stephen of Anchorage; granddaughter Cherl Gilmour of North Pole; grandson and wife Walter and Kathleen Gilmour; great-grandchildren Andrea, Jonathan, Christopher and Kaitlyn; sisters Viona Schuyler of Vallejo, Calif., Arlene O'Reilly of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Ann Grimes of Dale City, VA.; and brother and sister-in-law Forest and MayJo Koch.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ola and John Koch; sisters Carol and Phylis; brother Bob; and her husband, former Anchorage city manager, Robert (Bob) Sharp.
Arrangements were made by Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary.
