Climber rescued after fall in Hatcher Pass area

A rock climber was rescued Tuesday after a fall in the Hatcher Pass area.

The Alaska State Troopers received a report of an injured climber just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The climber fell more than 25 feet in an area near the end of Archangel Road, according to troopers. The climber landed on a ledge about 60 feet above the ground. The Rescue Coordination Center responded from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson for a hoist rescue, AST and Alaska Wildlife Troopers also responded on all-terrain vehicles.

The climber was rescued by the RCC crew at about 11:30 p.m. and the person was transported with non-life threatening injuries to Providence Hospital in Anchorage.

The climber suffered neck and back injuries, according to troopers.
