PALMER — A final dash to the finish line gave Brandon Schafer the edge in a battle of Colony seniors during the Mat-Su Borough Championships Wednesday afternoon at Colony High School.

Schafer posted a time of 10:44.3 to finish just a hair ahead of teammate Lyon Kopsack (10:44.5). Boaz Sessom (11:03) and Dakota Peterson-Thompson (11:09) finished third and fourth respectively, as the Knights swept the top 4 spots.

Justin Gentz was the first of five Wasilla runners to place in the top 10 on the 2-mile course. Gentz recorded a mark of 11:11 to finish fifth. Andrew Spencer was 10th to lead Houston, while Ryan Kavlok placed 13th to lead Palmer.

Peggy Mathis finished fifth for WHS.

Ruby Woodings led the Palmer Moose with a time of 13:02 and a fourth-place finish. Colony freshmen Cathelyne Powers and Elisabeth Bowker finished sixth and seventh respectively to lead the Knights.
