The success of Bishop's Attic II depends on the donation of high-quality goods from the community, and now more than ever, certain items are needed.
Clothes, particularly baby and children clothing, are needed for sale at the Palmer thrift store. The store is always accepting merchandise donations from the community, but officials stressed that quality goods are needed.
"We are extremely appreciative of all of the donations," said board member Carol Akerson. "But we have no washing facility here. We can really use clothing that you would put on your own child."
When clothing comes into the store, it enters into an extensive process. Volunteers first sort the clothing into bins, and pull aside any garments that need to be recycled instead of put on the rack. Then, the staff puts the garments through a second sorting, as well as color-coded pricing. Ultimately, it ends up on the rack for three months, and then is discounted for an additional month.
"It's important that we always have new stuff on the racks because we have a lot of people who come regularly to see what we've gotten in," said board member Rose Scheibl.
In one of the store's back rooms, boxes and boxes of season gear are stacked on each other, to ensure the store stays ahead of the season.
"We want to have summer stuff out during spring, not during the middle of summer when we get donations," Sheibl explained.
Quality donations can be dropped off at the Palmer store during normal business hours. In addition to clothing, the store accepts donations of many household items, including electronics. The store does not accept major appliances, including refrigerators and washers and dryers.
The store can always use volunteers to help with various store tasks, board members said.
