Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Anchorage resident Clyde "Richard" Hunsucker, 88, died Nov. 27, 2004, at Mile 15.5 Seward Hwy., due to a car accident.
Visitation was held one hour prior to an 11 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, Dec. 2, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2100 Boniface Parkway, Anchorage. The Rev. Lance Jennings officiated. Burial followed with full military honors at 1 p.m., at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
Mr. Hunsucker was born the youngest of 12 children, on April 30, 1916, in Claremont, N.C., to William and Bessy Hunsucker.
He was a chief warrant officer 4 in the United States Navy, retiring in September 1959 after 22 years of service. He served during three wars -- World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict.
After his military service, he became a realtor and retired from that profession in 1977. He moved to Anchorage in August 1991. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Anchorage and the Military Officer Association of America.
He was involved in many different community service projects. He was a world traveler and had seen all four corners of the world, excluding the Middle East.
His personal quotes were, "My personal relationship with the Lord is my own business," and "Harmony is a way of life. Life is too short, death is too certain."
His wife, Anita, said, "He was my personal good Samaritan, a loving husband, a loving friend, and a loving father. Richard was tender-hearted and giving."
He is survived by his wife, Anita "Annie" Hunsucker of Anchorage; daughter, Ashley Hunsucker of Anchorage; son, Richard "Dell" Hunsucker of Anchorage; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Tina Hunsucker of Lone Oak, Texas, Jack and Cindy Hunsucker of Canyon Lake, Texas, and John and Joy Hunsucker of Georgetown, Texas; grandchildren, David Hunsucker of Georgetown, Texas, Dana and Timothy Cooper of Discovery Bay, Calif., Michael and Andrea Hunsucker of Houston, Texas, Rita Hunsucker of Georgetown, Texas, Leigh Ann Hunsucker of Lone Oak, Texas, and Katherine Hunsucker of Lone Oak, Texas; great-grandchild, Alden Hunsucker of Georgetown, Texas; former daughter-in-law, Sandra Hunsucker of Georgetown, Texas, and nieces and nephews in North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Zion Lutheran Church. Anchorage Funeral Home and Crematory made the arrangements.
