It’s been 10 years since any team has bested the Colony Middle School varsity cheerleading squad, which won the state championship again Oct. 22 at South High School in Anchorage at the Alaska Spirit Coaches Competition.

Coach Chris Hebert led the CMS varsity team and Amanda Ackerman coached the junior varsity team, which also won top honors in the team competition.

Both the varsity and junior varsity teams from CMS won first-place honors for individual competitors, five-man stunt group and for the team overall.

And the CMS varsity team also received the Grand Champion Award.
