PALMER -- A 13-year-old Colony Middle School student who tried to set an 11-year-old girl's hair and fleece vest on fire with a lighter last Thursday is being charged with third-degree assault, first-degree arson and two counts of fifth-degree criminal mischief, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Colony Middle School Principal John Miller called troopers about the alleged incident on Dec. 9. The boy also damaged the girl's fleece vest by marking on it with a permanent marker, causing $25 worth of damage, and melted a quarter-sized hole in a bus seat with the lighter, causing $35 worth of damage, troopers reported Friday.
All charges against the 13-year-old have been forwarded to Juvenile Intake.
