The 2013 Special Olympics Alaska State Bowling Tournament on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Nov. 22-24 is days away, and the Mat-Su Special Olympics delegation is hoping to bring the state trophy home for the next year. Soon afterward, in early December, training begins for the 2014 Winter Games in March.
The Mat-Su teams need coaches for alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The floor hockey team is ready to go.
Special Olympics Mat-Su has numerous volunteer opportunities and offers participation in many different sports activities year-round. Volunteer participation makes quality, comprehensive training and competition possible.
There is also a Special Olympics Mat-Su Volunteer Appreciation Party from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Nov. 9 at American Legion Post No. 15 on Mystic Circle near Palmer. The fun includes music, free food, door prizes and a special award presentation. This is for the Mat-Su Special Olympics community to express its thanks to all the volunteers, community organizers and supporters in the Valley who make everything possible.
For more information, to volunteer or to RSVP for the Volunteer Appreciation Party, call 631-8591 or email matsu@specialolympicsalaska.org.
