To the editor:
Coal has proven to be overwhelmingly harmful for local businesses and community health in most places where it is dug up and transported. Its development proves to be noisy, toxic and destructive to almost all living things.
If you live in the Mat-Su Valley and care about property values, good health, recreational activities, clean water or quality of life, you should not ignore the proposed and actual coal development in our community any longer.
Together, we can keep our community strong, prosperous, thriving and healthy, and we don’t need coal to do it. The pristine beauty of our Valley, our clean water and abundant wildlife, our local farms and recreational opportunities, and the wealth of talent of our people counts for much more than temporary profits for the few and the enduring damage that can be wrought by coal development.
Please, don’t ignore this important issue any longer. Get involved, write letters, attend public meetings and participate in your local elections.
